Originating from the French, "plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose," translates in English to "the more things change the more they stay the same."

Some may know this as lyrics from a Bon Jovi song, but the phrase is attributed to a French writer, Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr, who first used it in 1849.

In any case, this is what I had in mind when writing this article for the SAM Magazine about cultural differences between Finns and Americans, especially when doing business.

As an American who has spent almost half my life living in Finland, has become a dual American-Finnish citizen, and has been married to a Finnish woman for 40 years, I feel somewhat qualified to share my thoughts which I hope are helpful for those who want to do business in the USA.
