When BBC World produced ‘Formula for Success’ in 2007, my co-authors – Professor Mark Jenkins, Richard West, and I - had the opportunity to appear on-screen along with the many F1 drivers, personalities and experts.

The 8-part television series was inspired by the eight chapters in our book, “Performance at the Limit, Business Lessons from Formula 1 Motor Racing,” published by Cambridge University Press in 2005. Two later editions followed along with several translated versions.

In previous posts I have shared ‘Formula for Success’ links for episodes 1) OVERVIEW OF THE SPORT AND BUSINESS OF F1; 2) STRATEGY AND LEADERSHIP; and 3) SPONSORSHIP AND BRANDING.

Here are two more links in the series:

Episode 4: TALENT RECRUITING AND RETAINING emphasizes that people are at the heart of competitive advantage in F1, as in business; a retro look at young drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg; the importance of training especially on simulators for drivers and RAF pilots; and cultural fit is key to retention of talent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m21NIP17rB8

Episode 5: TECHNOLOGY focuses on F1 being where human endeavor meets technological achievement; technology innovation and adoption to find a competitive edge; time to track vs. time to market, fast decision-making; and creating environments that encourage innovation. Note: Cosworth’s Catastrophe Cup awarded to the company’s biggest cock-up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mUGJy6p6IY
