I recently found and posted Episode 1 of “Formula for Success,” an eight-part BBC World television series based on our book “Performance at the Limit, Business Lessons from Formula 1 Motor Racing made in 2007. My co-authors and I collaborated with a very professional production team from Sunset + Vine in the making.
I just discovered more episodes, each about 25 minutes long. While many of the people and teams that appear in the series are from an earlier era of F1, the story lines and underlying principles, just like the three editions of our book, have remained relevant over time.
Episode 1 was an OVERVIEW of the sport and business of F1 summed up by Sir Frank William’s quote, “For two hours on a Sunday it is a sport; all the rest of the time it is business.”
Here are links to Episodes 2 and 3.
Episode 2: STRATEGY AND LEADERSHIP covering topics like fast decision making, leaders at all levels, attention to detail, efficient production and lean management, learnings from F1 by Air Asia and the Royal Air Force. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tcoRWvizb4
Episode 3: SPONSORSHIP AND BRANDING. Follows the rise and demise of tobacco sponsorship and how Red Bull redefined F1 marketing, while highlighting the sport’s attractiveness to sponsors as an example of quality, expertise, glamour and global reach. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oQo-Pbs4jo
