My co-authors and I wrote “Performance at the Limit, Business Lessons from Formula 1 Motor Racing” in 2005, pioneering the concept of finding business and leadership wisdom from observing F1 teams and how they achieve high performance in a competitive, pressure-filled industry.

The success of the book’s first edition published by Cambridge University Press (two revised editions followed in 2008 and 2016) led to our working with the BBC in the creation ‘Formula for Success’ in 2007.

This is the final post of a series in which I have shared links to the 8 episodes of that television series.

Episode 8 – THE FUTURE (ignore the garbled subtitles) foretells the challenges faced in capping spiraling costs so smaller teams could compete; environmental concerns leading to hybrid engines, hydrogen fuels and F1’s Net Zero Carbon program. It also revises LESSONS LEARNED about the importance of communication, alignment of stakeholders, quick decision-making by empowered leaders at all levels, real gains come at the boundaries where risk taking leads to creativity; never becoming complacent; and F1’s mindset that emphasizes adaption and innovation.
