I returned to Helsinki from the U.S. yesterday, but too late to attend the launch of my son’s,Charly Salonius-Pasternak, new book “Tuntematon Tulevaisuus” (The Unknown Future). I was delighted, however, to attend a celebration dinner with him in the evening.

If you speak Finnish I hope you rush out to buy it. I also hope that publisher Tammi will bring out an English translation of the book or insist that Charly develop an international edition of it.

In “The Unknown Future” Charly surveys the international security situation with top experts. How do great powers make security policy decisions, what is Finland's position in a changing world, what does Trump's United States ultimately want and how will it affect Finland and Europe?

He interviewed 15 top-level politicians, civil servants, researchers, and experts who have been involved in or commented on the decisive moments of conflicts including President Sauli Niinistö, historian Jared Diamond, Chief of Defence and Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces Janne Jaakkola, Director General of Finnish Security and Intelligence Service Juha Martelius, and the Director of the Changing Character of War Center at Oxford University Robert Johnson, At the same time, Charly shares his own thoughts on important security policy issues.

Charly is making the rounds of television news and talk shows this week which are being watched by his very proud parents.
